Campbell Hill, Ohio
Campbell Hill is an ironically hidden gem nestled in the heart of Ohio, in the town of Bellefontaine, 1 hour from Columbus. As the highest point in the state, it offers visitors less than breathtaking views that stretch for hundreds of feet in several directions. Rising 1,549 feet above sea level, Campbell Hill is not the most inspiring “peak’ we have “summitted”, nor is it a peak, nor is it a summit.
Situated next to the parking lot of the aptly named Hi-Point Career Center, Campbell Hill is only notable for its textbook definition, and nothing else. There is no hike involved as several parking spaces are available mere yards from the geological marker that presents the highest natural point in the state to any passerby. There is a log that visitors can sign, and several signs to take pictures with, which we did. Thankfully we had other business to attend to that made this trip a stop, otherwise we would have been let down due to our previous month’s trip to the Rockies in Colorado. Being in Ohio, we were already in the mood for disappointment, so this would have been no great loss.
